The Adult Matric programme is a Distance Learning course that provides students with the opportunity to get their matric certificate if they did not write matric or did not pass their matric exams.

What Is An Amended Senior Certificate?

An Amended Senior Certificate is an award obtained by completing the Adult Matric programme. It is on the same level as a traditional matric certificate.

Differences Between Adult Matric And Traditional Matric

There are a few differences between the Adult Matric programme and the traditional matric certificate, such as:

  • You can choose a period in which to complete the course
  • There are different pass  requirements
  • You will not have any physical classes to attend, so you do not get a class mark
  • There are fewer subjects that you must complete
  • The entry requirements are different

Doing Adult Matric Through Distance Learning

The Adult Matric programme is offered by the educational body known as Bellview Institute of Distance Learning. You will complete all of your studies online as well as handing in your assignments virtually.

You will only need to write your final examination for matric at an allocated venue as organised by the DHET.

There is no necessity for educational institutions to go through an accreditation process in order to offer the Adult Matric course. This means that Bellview also does not need to undergo this process.

Application Requirements For Adult Matric 

You can apply for an Adult Matric course if:

  • You have a grade 9 certificate (or a certificate that is equivalent to grade 9)
  • You have a matric status that is incomplete (stating that you did not write matric or did not meet the pass requirements)
  • You are 21 years or older when you write your final exams

Adult Matric Duration

You can choose to finish the Adult Matric programme within 12, 24, or 36 months. It is recommended that you choose to complete the course in the 12 or 24 month period.

You can choose to start this programme at the age of 19, but you will need to be 21 years by the time of your final examinations.

Yes, this qualification is accepted by universities. You must, however, pass this course on a Bachelor’s Degree level in order to meet the minimum requirements for university application.

You will also have to consider the other specific entry requirements for the university course you want to apply for. It is important to make sure that you choose the right subjects for Adult Matric that correlate with your chosen university programme. Getting high marks in your subjects will also give you a better chance of getting accepted.
